Getting Around

Getting to St. John:

  • There are no direct flights to St. John; visitors arrive at St. Thomas Airport (STT) on the west end of St. Thomas. Upon arrival at STT, taxis are readily available outside the baggage claim area. Taxis can take you to either Crown Bay or Red Hook, where you can catch a passenger ferry to St. John. It's a relatively quick and hassle-free option, offering door-to-door service.

    PASSENGER FERRY:

There are two main ferry options departing from St. Thomas to Cruz Bay, St. John.

  • Crown Bay Ferry: Located in Crown Bay, it's a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport. The ferry journey takes approximately 40 minutes. Click here for information about the Crown Bay > Cruz Bay passenger ferry

  • Red Hook Ferry: Situated in Red Hook, it's about a 35-minute taxi ride from the airport. The ferry ride from Red Hook is shorter, taking around 20 minutes. Click here for information about the Red Hook > Cruz Bay passenger ferry

Both ferries operate on different schedules but converge at the same dock in Cruz Bay, St. John.

    CAR BARGE:

Alternatively, if you decide to rent a car on St. Thomas you can take the car barge from Red Hook to Enighed Pond (Cruz Bay), St. John. The car barge takes approximately 40 minutes but there can be a long wait due to long lines at the barge.

  • Click here for information about the Red Hook > Enighed Pond (Cruz Bay) car barge.

    PRIVATE WATER TAXI:

If you prefer a more personalized experience, private water taxi services are available. These can be arranged in advance and offer a direct transfer to St. John. You can find more information about water taxi services here: St. Thomas Water Taxi and Dolphin Water Taxi.

Transportation on St. John:

  • A rental vehicle is required for your stay at the Verde Cottage! Rental vehicles are available on both St. John and St. Thomas. A Jeep/SUV is not necessary to access the Verde Cottage as the 20-minute drive to the house is fully paved (albeit winding!). Here is a list of car rental companies on St. John.

Taxis on St. John:

  • Taxis are unreliable and expensive to rely on transporting your group to/from Bordeaux Mountain and Uber/Lyft do not exist on St. John. Renting a car is definitely the preferred means of transportation!

Choosing the transportation option that aligns with your preferences and schedule will ensure a smooth journey from the STT Airport to the enchanting island of St. John.
